It opened again for a few warmer days during the middle of our trip and then was closed for the season by the end of the week we were there. The road typically opens sometime in mid-to-late May.ĭuring our visit, the road was closed the first morning because of ice. Frequently, snow closes the road for the winter by late September. Because of the higher elevations along the road, the driving conditions deteriorate quickly in poor weather.
